Family holiday fun
Published
Let’s face it, winter with small kids can be long and hard, so why not throw everything in the car and head for a reviving British break? We’ve picked out two family-friendly destinations for you.
NEW PARK MANOR
Nestled in the heart of the New Forest, this is the perfect place to recharge your batteries. Parents can look forward to lots of pampering in this Luxury Family Hotel, in a delightful historic house surrounded by woodland. They offer an indoor pool (as well as an outdoor one in the summer) along with fine dining and a spa. But best of all, your family’s needs are very much at the forefront.
The hotel knows that a holiday isn’t a holiday unless you’re able to de-stress. That means taking some time for yourselves, so they provide two free hours of childcare every day in their welcoming crèche for under-eights, and a listening service in your room so you can dine like adults in the delightful restaurant.
Other child-friendly features include:
- Crèche – caters for babies from three months upwards, with each child eligible for a free two-hour session each day.
- Baby equipment – the hotel aim to provide everything you need, such as a cot, changing mat and nappy bin. A steam steriliser and bottle warmer can be found in the baby kitchen.
- Baby bottles and food – milk delivered morning and evening to your room, free of charge, and the chef can provide pureed baby food from 7am to 9.30pm.
- Children’s meals – an optional early mealtime and a menu specially designed for little ones aged two and upwards.
- Toddler equipment – rooms equipped with everything you need. Let the hotel know in advance and they will provide essentials such as bed guards and potties.
- Outdoors – Cycle hire includes bikes with toddler seats and wagons, meaning kids can come along too.
With 25 individual rooms, including some with children’s day beds, some which also accommodate cots, plus Family Suites with a separate interconnecting children’s room or area, the hotel has something to offer to families of all sizes!
This winter, you can treat yourself to an advance purchase midweek dinner-inclusive two, three or four-night break, from £329. This advance purchase offer is valid Sunday to Thursday until March 31 2020. Children stay for free but are charged for meals as taken, supplements apply to larger room categories. You get two hours per day complimentary access to the creche included.
POLURRIAN ON THE LIZARD
Perched above a secluded beach, right on the South West Coast Path, this contemporary seaside hotel offers stunning views across the Atlantic Ocean and even has its own beach – Polurrian Cove.
Just a 10-minute walk from the hotel, Polurrian Cove is the perfect setting for family walks and watching the local wildlife. Slightly further afield, you’ll find the white sands of Kynance Cove, which has become known as one of Cornwall's best beaches. Well sheltered by the granite cliffs, it's an ideal beach day destination even in colder months. Fans of Poldark will probably recognise Kynance Cove as Ross and Demelza's beach at Nampara.
The hotel’s communal areas have a relaxed, welcoming feel, while the bedrooms are homely with fluffy towels, feather bedding and comfy beds. The restaurant menus feature dishes inspired by the bold, rustic flavours of the Mediterranean, and use finest local Cornish ingredients. The special children’s menu includes ‘create your own pizza and ‘build your own plate’ allowing kids to make their own choices.
There’s a range of facilities to make a family stay fun including two swimming pools and a spa offering pampering treatments. Family suites include a master bedroom, children’s room and separate bathroom. Babysitting services are available.
Room rate this winter (until March 31, 2020) is from £159 for a one-night stay – and this includes a £20 credit per adult for dinner each evening. Children stay for free but are charged for meals as taken (supplements apply to larger room categories).
