Time to put on your PJs!

Bookworms everywhere, it’s time to get your PJs on! BookTrust, the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, is launching a fundraising campaign on Friday June 7. They are asking children nationwide to ditch their normal clothes, rock their pyjamas for the day – and donate £1 to the charity to help ensure no child ever misses the magic of a bedtime story.

Some of the nation’s best loved book characters will be supporting the campaign, including Matilda, Horrid Henry, Tracy Beaker and Ben and Holly. Schools, nurseries and individuals can sign up for fundraising packs by visiting booktrust.org.uk/pyjamarama

BookTrust is dedicated to getting children reading because research shows that children who read are happier, healthier, more empathetic and more creative. They also do better at school. Each year, the charity reaches 3.4 million children across the UK with books, resources and support to help develop a love of reading via libraries, schools and early years practitioners.

All funds raised from BookTrust’s Pyjamarama campaign will go towards supporting more children and families to acquire the reading habit.
* £25 can provide 15 pre-school children living in women’s refuge centres with their own book pack.
* £50 can give six families from deprived communities additional support through their children’s centres to develop a reading habit.

* £1,000 can enable Book Trust to support 740 children with a disability that impacts motor skills, providing them with specially created touch and feel books, finger puppets and guidance for parents

Diana Gerald, CEO of BookTrust, says: ‘We want to make sure that no child misses out on the life-changing benefits of a bedtime story. Wearing pyjamas all day is a wonderful way to show support for reading, and it’s incredibly easy for schools, nurseries, children and busy parents!’
