Children in search of a home

For the first time in recent years, there are more children in England in need of adoption than there are parents registered to adopt.

With the cost of living hitting families, prospective adopters may be holding back, waiting for the ‘perfect time’ or circumstances. Nine in 10 prospective adopters say the cost of living crisis has directly affected their adoption decisions. But for a child needing a permanent home, the perfect time is now. Sadly, there are many children of all ages waiting much longer than they should to find their forever home.

To help combat the decline in the rate of adoption, You Can Adopt has launched a new campaign, The Journey, in which real life adopters from all walks of life have come together in a film to inspire more people to take the first step towards growing their family. It shows that, like any family road trip, adoption is a journey full of challenges, chaos, conversation and love.

The film follows adoptive parents on their travels, reflecting the ups and downs of ‘family journeys’ and showing that although they can be challenging, the difficult moments are far outweighed by the positives, such as special memories, anticipation of the destination and bonding time.
