Any excuse!

Childcare, it seems, is becoming such a thorny issue that more than 2 in 5 working parents have or would give an excuse to their boss so they could take time off to care for their poorly child, stating they were poorly so they could stay home to care for their child.
Nearly I in 5 (18 per cent) would blame it on themselves, saying that they were poorly so they could stay at home and look after their child. But parental guilt sets in as one in four (27 per cent) admit to feeling guilty for having to take time off work.
The survey, from protection and employee benefits provider, MetLife UK, highlighted the most popular excuses used. These are:
● I'm ill - 18%
● I have an appointment - 13%
● A problem in the home i.e. a leak - 9%
● A colleague has covered for me- 8%
● My child got in trouble at school - 8%
● There's been a death in the family - 6%
● A relative was poorly
● I've put a fake meeting in the diary - 6%
● I haven't said anything, I've just gone/switched off - 5%
The research also found mums are more likely to take time off work to look after their child should they have an accident or feel unwell than dads (53 per cent versus 23 per cent).
